Emma & Jonte

Emma wore Style DR421 with a custom overskirt from the Destination Romance Collection

How did you meet your spouse?
We met at St Hilda’s College at The University of Melbourne in 2014.
We were together for 11 years before getting married.

Tell us about your proposal
We were staying at a beautiful old restored church which was turned into accommodation just outside of Forest, near the Great Ocean Road. We were enjoying a glass of wine, overlooking rolling green hills, the sun setting, when Jonte got down on one knee.

Tell us about your wedding dress. How was your experience when you were searching for "The One"?
I was nervous before starting the process but felt at ease with the expertise of the staff at The Sposa Group. Frankie created my dream look. I wanted a high neck, delicate lace, sleeves, and an open back. I wanted the drama for the ceremony with a long lace edged veil, but also to be comfortable dancing under the stars (without a big train). We went for a beautiful mikado overskirt with a thick, high waistband that sat over my beautiful wedding dress. It had a chic front split, open back and lace bodice with long sleeves. This ensemble gave me two looks, I removed the overskirt half way through the reception prior our speeches and first dance.

Describe a favourite highlight or two from your wedding day.
The immense joy of celebrating our love with all our friends and family. The weather gods were on our side and we had the long table, tuscan style outdoor reception of our dreams. We danced under the stars and enjoyed beautiful Rutherglen wine.

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
My advice would be to pick a few things to prioritise. For us it was a venue which had great food and wine and felt like a fairytale, nostalgic photography and videography (particularly film and super 8 footage), a celebrant we really connected with, having a band for live entertainment, and hard copy invitations that we mailed out to guests (as we rarely experience the joys of receiving a letter in the mail in modern society).
And to remember what it is all about, you and your best friend getting married.
