How did you meet your spouse?
Josh and I met through Hinge, the "app designed to be deleted" and it truly changed my life. Before meeting him, I was actually preparing to leave Australia and return to Qatar, but something about him made me take a leap of faith and stay. Unlike other dating apps, Hinge felt more decent, and Josh’s profile immediately caught my eye (plus, he had a dog named "Max"). He teased me about my name because I had an audio clip teaching people how to pronounce it and he said that’s what made him swipe right (along with my claim of winning an eating contest).
Our first date was chaotic and unforgettable. I got lost at Caulfield Station, was late, and had to yell at him from across the platform because the train was about to leave! Our first meeting on that train was full of apologies and laughter. When we finally got to Docklands, Josh taught me how to balance on the ice rink, and we discovered we were just nine days apart in age! From celebrating his birthday on our first date to my birthday on our second, everything just clicked. Over time, Josh’s decision to embrace my faith made our bond even stronger. Aside from falling in love with him, I also fell in love with Australia especially Melbourne because of the life we’ve built here. What started as a chaotic “hello” on Hinge has led to the greatest adventure of my life.
Tell us about your proposal
We got engaged on August 6, 2024, at the Eureka Skydeck. At first, I was confused as I’d been there before and wondered why we were going again. Josh simply said, “I want to make new memories with you here,” and I found that really sweet. When we reached the top, he started pointing out all the places where we used to go on dates and places we had visited together. I even teased him, saying, “Look at you, getting all sentimental!” Then we went into the Edge Experience, the glass box that extends out of the building. I’m scared of heights, so I was already a bit nervous and said, “Where are you?” And when I turned around, there he was, down on one knee. I immediately burst into tears and said yes. It was the easiest yes of my life.
Tell us about your wedding dress. How was your experience when you were searching for "The One"?
I can't thank The Sposa Group enough for making my wedding dress journey so special. I was already in tears and completely distressed after being scammed with my first gown, leaving me only two months to find a new one. But from the moment I walked into The Sposa Group, they truly went above and beyond to help me find my dream dress. A huge thank you to Athena, who was absolutely amazing! She made me feel so comfortable and supported throughout the entire process, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I also want to give a big shoutout to the seamstress, Leffy. She was incredible and made sure my dress fit perfectly. I truly felt like a princess on my wedding day.
Describe a favourite highlight or two from your wedding day.
One of our favorite highlights was our private first look before the ceremony. It was such an emotional and intimate moment where we got to soak everything in, just the two of us. Another was walking into the reception as Mr. and Mrs. with all our loved ones cheering. It felt surreal, like a dream come to life.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but here’s our advice: Start early but stay flexible, because not everything will go as planned and that’s okay! Set a budget and prioritize what’s important to you as a couple, so you don’t stress about the extras. Don’t sweat the small stuff; your guests will remember the love and fun of the day, not the tiny details. Most importantly, take time for just the two of you. Whether it’s a private moment before/after the ceremony or sneaking away during the reception, those little pauses together make the day even more special. Lastly, enjoy every second, because it’ll fly by faster than you think!
