How did you meet your spouse?
We met in high school through our friendship groups and started dating just before our last year of school, so we're high school sweethearts!
Tell us about your proposal
Jarrod and I had planned to go to Fiji for a week and I suspected something but wasn't 100% sure so just went with the flow. The whole day before he proposed he was really quiet (more than usual) and that night he said we should take a sunset stroll on the beach. Of course I wanted a cute photo with the beautiful sunset and he told me to turn around and look at the sunset, when I turned back he was on one knee! Obviously I said yes!
It was a beautiful and intimate moment, but we actually have photos of us walking back up the beach after the proposal because of a lovely lady taking sunset photos!
Tell us about your wedding dress. How was your experience when you were searching for "The One"?
I went into dress shopping not knowing at all what I wanted despite loving fashion! I had one dress that I thought was the one but actually didn’t end up loving. I tried on Swan and loved it but it just wasn’t MY dress! That’s when we started playing around with dresses and I started thinking about the possibility of combining a number of dresses. So we combined the neckline of one, the fabric and colour of another, and I was very ambitious that I wanted the tulle underneath to be removable so I could dance at the reception!
Marianna assured me we could do all this, but a lot of it needed to be done in house in alterations. I nervously showed up to my first try on and the dress was still a simple (and beautiful) satin dress but I knew we still had a lot to do with it. A month before I went into alterations and we spent over an hour, pinning the pick ups on the dress and altering it to my body. It wasn’t until 2 weeks before the wedding that I had my big “this is the dress” moment. I saw the dress (still semi completed) and burst into tears of happiness along with my mum. A week later my dress was done and I was obsessed with it! I loved that I was able to create my vision with the talented team at Sposa.
Describe a favourite highlight or two from your wedding day.
The day itself was a dream, but I loved the time I had with my husband in the car after the ceremony just basking in the day, it was a quiet time just for us. Also being in the church and looking out and seeing everyone you love is so surreal, it’s an image I’ll always cherish.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
Take it slow and enjoy being engaged! We had a ‘long’ engagement of almost 3 years and it was a really nice period, we were also planning our wedding for about 2 years which meant we got the vendors we wanted and weren’t as stressed.
