Sophie wore a custom Lena gown from the Platinum by Demetrios Collection
How did you meet your spouse?
Cameron and I met in 2013, when I was 21 and he was 23. We both worked at the same Coles store, and we would chat on breaks (he was shy, and I was chirpy, and I regularly dragged him into conversations). One day I was down about something and kept to myself, and he noticed, appearing at my side halfway through my break with an ice cream he hoped would cheer me up. We started talking regularly outside of work from then on, and that's when we realised we clicked almost unnaturally well!
Tell us about your proposal
We were on holiday in Thailand, and he waited until the last night of the trip so my nerves were good and fried (I may have suspected something, given we picked out a ring months and months prior). He got down on one knee on the beach in front of our resort, in front of a crowd of people who noticed absolutely nothing.
Tell us about your wedding dress. How was your experience when you were searching for "The One"?
I had found a dress I really loved, however my heart had been set on something with flowers. That led me to wanting to try on the Anastasia dress from Demetrios, and I made the trip from Adelaide to Melbourne with a friend. As it turns out, I didn't end up with the Anastasia dress, but Athena worked with me during the session to find out what I had loved in previous dresses, and the Lena dress (with some pink flowers added to make it my own!) ended up being the perfect fit for me. I definitely had a moment where I "just knew", as I'm a notorious waffler, and I committed to the dress the same day I found it!
The Sposa Group really went above and beyond to assist me with my dress, from communication to allowing me to store it longer than usual due to me being from Adelaide, to scheduling my alterations back to back so I didn't have to make multiple trips. I really had the most wonderful experience and would recommend you to anybody!
Describe a favourite highlight or two from your wedding day.
Our dance floor! We had amazing vendors for our wedding, and the dance floor was packed all night. We deliberately chose a venue that would have plenty of room for our guests to dance, but even then we had no idea how many would get amongst it. In the end, several members of Cameron's family and friends made a makeshift dancefloor on the other side of the reception to expand the party! Some of the photos we have of guests showing off their most spectacular moves-complete with lifts good enough to rival the couple's first dance-are absolutely priceless.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
Try to tick off a few tasks every week, no matter how far out you are! You might think you have plenty of time, but so many things must be done in the last month or so, you don't want to be juggling those alongside the tasks you procrastinated because there was "heaps of time left". Ask me how I know!!
